It had been four years since we had to part with our beloved Lhasa Apso X, Angel. The whole experience was so traumatic that none of the family have even been able to mention her name since. During the years that followed we had agreed as a family that we didn’t want another dog, not until we retired anyway. Umm, yeah.
I have always dreamed of owning a Golden Retriever. I’m not exactly sure why. Perhaps because I had never met a Goldie that I didn’t adore. Their gentle nature, and graceful way of moving always intrigued me. All of a sudden, I started seeing Goldie’s everywhere. Left, right, in passing cars. It was driving me nuts. I wasn’t ready for another dog. Why had I become so obsessed that I was seeing them everywhere?
Along came Sparky. Sparky is an exuberant 2 year old ex-show dog. I introduced him to my youngest son, as I was unsure how my boy would cope with such a large breed. They got along famously. A few days later my teenager came to meet Sparky. They bonded immediately. To cut a long story short, Sparky joined our family and we all adore him. We decided to rename him Rusty, and in just a few short months he has settled in perfectly.
Best of all, I’m now finding we are talking about Angel again, reminiscing about the happy years we had with our cheeky little monkey.
I’d love to hear about your family pets! Have you ever stumbled upon the perfect pet?
